Episode summary
Rebecca Franks and Beverley Clarke MBE reflect on their journey from teaching into technology, publishing and entrepreneurship. They discuss what it really feels like to build a business from scratch, overcome imposter syndrome, publish books and create opportunities by simply taking the first step.
Along the way, they explore why success is rarely a straight line, the importance of mentors and supportive networks, and why career journeys should be shaped by your own goals rather than someone else’s expectations. The conversation also touches on women in technology, questioning emerging technologies such as AI, and the value of continuous learning.
If you’re considering a career change into technology, thinking about starting a business or looking for inspiration from two people building their own paths, this episode offers an honest and encouraging perspective.
Journey insights
- Career changes are built one step at a time. Success comes from taking action, learning as you go and embracing the journey rather than waiting for the perfect moment.
- You don’t need permission to become something new. Whether it’s becoming an author, entrepreneur or technology professional, confidence often comes after taking the first step.
- Build a strong support network. Mentors, partners and trusted advisers can help you navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship and personal growth.
- Question new technologies as well as embracing them. Artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies offer huge opportunities, but they should always be approached with curiosity and critical thinking.
- Create your own career path. There is no single route into technology or entrepreneurship. The most rewarding careers are often built by following your own interests and experiences.
